Ghanaian traditional music and dance groups continue to churn out musical albums that make use of the rich and diverse indigenous musical resources of the country.
These albums have gradually found their way onto the international market due to the authenticity of its rhythms, which have been used by traditional Ghanaian musicians for generations.
The Anunyam Traditional Music and Dance Group has joined the fray. Saturday Jaunuary 20, 2007 will be the launch of its maiden album with a spectacular performance at the Dutch Hotel (Nshornaa) in Accra.
Titled "Krowor”, the nine-track album is a collection of songs sang in Ga and English that call for peace love and unity in the world. It appeals to mankind to respect foreign cultures while commenting on the need for freedom for all peace loving people.
Composed by Nii Afotey Odai, who has been involved with a number of traditional music and dance groups, “Krowor” is a dramatic fusion traditional Ghanaian instrument with sensuous guitar rhythms that grab and sustain the attention of the listener.
Tracks one and six feature a brilliant rendition of flute work by Victor Afutu that provide a touch of glorious melody. It reminds one of the power and capabilities of the Ghanaian flute, which has been popularised in recent years by a number of young musicians.
Anunyam Traditional Music and Dance Group has over the past few years delighted the eyes and ears of diverse audiences in Accra and its surrounding areas with traditional music and dances that have been laced with their own variations.
In December 2006, the group thrilled a capacity crowd at the Alliance Franacaise with several pieces from their rich repertoire, which include dances from some neighbouring countries.
“Krowor” was recorded at the Kusun Productions Studio in Accra with Nii Tettey Tetteh and Nii Noi Tetteh as engineers.
