African beauty queens start tour of Ghana
Accra, Sept 19, GNA - A tour of the country by four Africa beauty queens started on Monday as part of activities to mark this year''s World Tourism Day celebration which falls on September 27. The tour aims at triggering the interest of the international community in Ghana as "a quality, warm and friendly destination". The beauty queens are led by Miss Inna Marian Patty, Miss Ghana 2004 and include Miss Liberia 2005, Miss Togo 2004 and Miss Nigeria 2005 who is also Miss Tourism International. They would be joined by Miss South Africa and Miss Botswana.

Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City, at a press briefing in Accra said the beauty queens would visit the Central, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Greater Accra and the Eastern regions to join in the regional celebrations of World Tourism Day.

He said the sub-region remained a big market for tourists and the trip was an opportunity to showcase Ghana to the beauty queens. Miss Patty chose promotion of tourism as one of her projects during her reign as Miss Ghana, hence the decision to promote Ghana''s tourism potential among her sister beauty queens during the celebration of World Tourism Day this year.

She said the tour would also be used to promote domestic tourism. World Tourism Day is celebrated on the September 27 every year to draw attention to tourism and its role in the socio-economic development of nations, as well as its impact on harmony and unity among communities.
