Actress and R&B singer Brandy was involved in a four-car crash that left one woman dead, police have said. The 27-year-old, whose full name is Brandy Norwood, failed to slow down and hit the back of another car, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The car, driven by Awatef Aboudihaj, hit another vehicle and slid sideways before it was hit by an oncoming car. Ms Aboudihaj died later in hospital.
Her death was ruled an accident. The 30 December crash is being investigated.
Ms Norwood told officers she was driving at around 65mph (104kph) when the crash occurred.
She was alone in her car and no alcohol or drugs were involved, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Leland Tang.
Condolences
"We''ve impounded all four vehicles, and the outcome of the mechanical inspection is coming to us today or tomorrow," he added.
"Barring any mechanical difficulties on Brandy''s part there''s the very high probability that she is the party most at fault or the contributing party."
A statement issued by the singer''s publicist said: "She wishes to publicly express her condolences to the family of the deceased." It asked the media to "respect the privacy of everyone involved at this time".
Ms Norwood has recorded five albums and earned a Grammy in 1999. Her UK hits include What About Us and The Boy Is Mine.
She has acted for film and television, starring in the US sitcom Moesha, and most recently appeared as a judge on Simon Cowell''s America''s Got Talent.
