All the nations A-list performers could not draw a decent crowd to last Wednesday’s ‘Love and Life’ valentine concert at the forecourt of the state house.
The jubilee related gig was supposed to have been the go-to-spot that day but it
turned out quite differently. You would think that the whole of Accra would love a free concert featuring all their favorite acts.
Who doesn’t want to see Obour and A.B Crentsil perform songs on their joint album plus Wutah plus Samini- Nkasei, Castro, Tinny and 5-5 play live for free.
The amazing thing was, as at 11pm the large forecourt was not even a quarter full.
But truth be told - the show look liked it had taken some good production if we were to leave out the hype bit.
The stage had close to world class equipment; it was also very well lit and put together. The PA systems were by far some of the best anybody can lay their hands on and the output confirmed that.
All of this was complimented with an eight-piece band supported by fabulous acoustics and giant monitors that beamed action on the stage to those far away from the huge platform. All that work and effort for a scanty crowd like that must have been disheartening for the organizers.
Nkasei did the first live versions of songs off their new album and this time the duo is taking hard swipes at social ills generated by corruption.
Samini’s time on stage was some what lukewarm. But the small crowd enjoyed it regardless.
Wutah also performed a special theme song before getting into their familiar club bangers.
Chemphe was really good on the mic and was a great refresher for the night.
Reggie, Eddie Blay and Bela did great with the emceeing but that didn’t change anything about the turn out for the show.
On any other day, the show would have gone down as one of the best shows put up this year. But what good is all that wonderful performance if only few people get to see it.
It’s especially disturbing when you know it was a free show.
