Ghanaian reggae musician John Kwesi Selassie has been nominated for the 2007 Canadian Juno awards. He’s been nominated in the category of “the reggae recording of the year”.
The event which comes off on Sunday April 1st, 2007 in the Canadian city of Saskatoon will be hosted by Internationally-renowned Canadian singer /songwriter and JUNO Award winner Nelly.
Kwesi in an interview said, “his nomination is an honour since there are a lot of Jamaicans in Canada who are noted for this genre of music”.
Competing for the award with Kwesi are, Hard to See - Humble, Xrated - Korexion, Kulcha Connection - Kulcha Connection and In The Streets - Trinity Chris.
Kwesi Selassie, also known as “The Lion of Africa” was born in Sekondi-Takoradi. He hails from the Agyekum Royal Family in Agona Nsaba in the Central Region of Ghana.
He was the first African invited to perform at the Canadian Reggae Music Awards in 1995, the first African Nominated in 1997 and in 1999 for Judgement Day CD for the Top Reggae Album of theYear.
In November 1999, Kwesi took the African Music Awards by storm after being nominated in four of ten categories including Best Band, Album and Composer.
He was awarded the Best Producer of the Year.
According to Larry Leblanc of Billboard Magazine- Kwesi''s material is an intoxicating mix of High Life - Dub Reggae.
