History was made yesterday, June 20, 2007 at the headquarters of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) when the likes of Amandzeba, Rex Omar, Kojo Aquai and Gyedu Blay Ambulley got together with Alhaji Sidiku Buari and officials of MUSIGA in a reunion.
A closed-door meeting that lasted over two hours ended with shouts of hip hip hip, hooray! There was excitement written all over their faces when the meeting ended amidst laughter and humour.
There have been disagreements between Rex Omar, Amandzeba and friends on one hand and Alhaji Sidiku Buari on the other.
Yesterday’s meeting seems to mark a new dawn in the history of MUSIGA and the music industry. “Why do we fight, what’s wrong with us when we can unite based on what’s right with us,”Amandzeba declared in a chat after the meeting.
Alhaji Sidiku Buari, President of MUSIGA said the days when people took advantage of the division to cheat musicians are over. “We agreed on getting ourselves together so that we can work together as a team to be able to achieve our aim. I think it’s a great opportunity for all of us,” says Alhaji Buari.
Musicians have been divided for years over issues of ideology and approach to solving their common problems. This can certainly be described as a sign of good things to come on the music front in Ghana as peace prevails at long last.
Also present at the meeting were Diana Hopeson, Vice President of MUSIGA, renowned musician, A.B Crentsil, Togbe Edinam Ansah among others.
