Popular hip-life artiste, Castro, and one of his dancers, Ras Kelly, have narrated their own version of the shooting incident that claimed the life of a 25 year-old man at the Aphrodisiac Night club in Accra.
Following a publication in the Graphic Showbiz last week that the two were being sought by the police to assist in investigations, Castro and Ras have reported at the CID headquarters to give their statements and proceeded from there to tell Showbiz what happened.
At the office of Showbiz, Castro denied that the police had been to his house and that he was nowhere to be found. He also denied that the police left a message at his residence.
“The first time I heard that I was being wanted was when my manager drew my attention to the Graphic Showbiz publication last Thursday and I quickly rushed to the CID headquartersâ€, he said.
According to him he had held several shows and appeared live with all his dancers on TV3’s Music Music programme and if the police were indeed looking for him, they could easily have found him.
In the company of Ras Kelly and their manager, Darlynn Amess Kotei, Castro said though he was at the Aphrodisiac Club on the day of the incident, he did not even witness the shooting.
He said he was in the club with Ras and one Nana Yaw with their Liberian guest when they heard that someone had been shot at the parking lot outside.
He said when they came out of the club at about 4:30 am, the body had already been taken away so the four of them, including Ras, left the scene in his car.
“It cannot be true that Ras left with the suspect as alleged.â€
“I don’t know the deceased or the person who was alleged to have fired the shot. I am a law abiding person and I have a responsibility to my numerous fans out there, if the police had invited me I would have gone to tell them what I knowâ€, he said.
Eye witnesses had told the police that the man who fired the shot drove off with Ras in the car and efforts by the police to get Castro and Ras Kelly to assist in investigations had proven futile.
The deceased, Darren Danso, who was in the company of his girlfriend was shot and killed in his car by unidentified men at the Aphrodisiac Night Club at the Airport Residential Area in Accra.
The motive behind the killing was not immediately known but police investigators suspect it to be a case of gangster or contract killing.
According to a police source, the deceased who resided in the United Kingdom was in Ghana in May this year for holidays and had not returned till that tragedy.
