| No Show for Ghana At AMAA Awards |

Hopes that Ghana would cause a stir at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State of Nigeria, last Sunday could not materialize as the country failed to signal the African continent and the whole world that its movie industry is gradually reviving to occupy its previous place in African movies. Ghana had eight nominations in all with three movies, namely ‘Agony of Christ’, ‘Scorned’ and ‘Dead End’, but could not annex any of the awards.
Kenya took most of the notable awards. Overall, Kenya won six awards while Nigeria won seven. South Africa had three awards; Uganda had two awards just as Egypt and Burkina Faso. Niger managed to go home with one award. Ghana’s celebrated actor and actress, Majid Michel and Nadia Buari who were nominated for Best Actor and Actress based on the roles they played in ‘Agony of the Christ’, lost these awards to Farouk Alfishawi in the movie ‘Seventh Heaven’ from Egypt and Funke Akindele in the movie ‘Jenifa’ from Nigeria respectively.
