Bob Marley Concert Rescheduled To June 4 |

A planned concert to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the death of reggae icon Robert Nesta Marley aka Bob Marley, at the Trade Fair Centre, La Accra, has been rescheduled to June 4 2010.
Bosco Showbiz, organizers of the anniversary concert, said the event could not be held on May 14 due to the ban on drumming in the capital, adding that part of the proceeds would be donated to Bob Marley Foundation.
Bob Marley, who died on May 11, 1981, was a Jamaican singer, songwriter and musician. He was the rhythm guitarist, leader and lead singer for the reggae band Bob Marley and The Wailers. Marley remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited with helping spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience.
Bob Marley''s music was heavily influenced by the social issues of his homeland, and he is considered to have given voice to the specific political and cultural nexus of Jamaica.
His best-known hits include ‘I Shot the Sheriff’, ‘No Woman, No Cry’, ‘Could You Be Loved’, ‘Stir It Up’, ‘Jamming’, ‘Redemption Song’, ‘One Love’ and, together with The Wailers, ‘Three Little Birds’, as well as the posthumous releases ‘Buffalo Soldier’ and ‘Iron Lion Zion’.
The compilation album, ‘Legend’ (1984), released three years after his death, is reggae''s best-selling album, going ten times Platinum (Diamond) in the U.S. and selling 25 million copies worldwide.
The organizers of the show, in a statement, urged music fans to come to the Trade Fair Centre in their numbers to be part of the incredible concert dedicated to peace in Ivory Coast.
The organisers said music fans should not only come to have fun, but to also enjoy the drinks which would be made available during the event.
The show, which will kick off at 5pm, will feature a number of reggae music icons such as Iwan, Black Messiah, Commander Messiah, Radigan 4rm Nima, Vibration Kings Band, X-105, DJ Ice and DJ Wise.
Iwan is expected to share the stage with some of Africa’s best acts from Ivory Coast and Ghana. Already, word about Bob Marley’s concert in Ghana is making rounds in gossip circles.
Iwan, who has carved a niche for himself in the music industry, has a huge loyal fan base in Ghana. An astounding performer by industry standards, he is sure to deliver a thrilling performance.
Some personalities in the reggae music industry will pay tributes to departed reggae music icons like Peter Tosh, Lucky Dube, Culture, among others.
The statement said the much-awaited concert would be an evening filled with live band music in a bid to promote and preserve the culture of Ghanaian music. It will also be a platform to reawaken the art of live band performances.
