Controversial GMA car ‘handed over’ to Roselyn Ngissah 8/14/2011

The 2010 Ghana Movie Awards car awarded by the founder of the awards to the Overall Best Actress in Lead Role (English) category has been ‘handed over’ to Roselyn Ngissah.

Actresses Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro and Roselyn Ngissah beat Rose Mensah popularly known as Kyeiwaa to win the Founder''s Merit Award of a brand new Zoyte SUV 4-wheel drive at the 2010 edition of the awards.

The four actresses, after the car was presented to them on January 25, were supposed to agree on how they were going to use the car but failed to reach a consensus.

One of them, Jackie Appiah, publicly declared that she was opting out of the use of the car and even any benefits should the car be sold.

The car, for several weeks, was left at the Golden Tulip hotel after it was handed over to the four bringing to bear the fact that no decisive conclusion was attained by the actresses.

After several months of controversies and the founder of the awards, Fred Nuamah, also having a go at the car, with the pretext that “the car had to be used”, organizers have now agreed to hand over the car to the four actresses in turns to help promote the awards.

The four signed an agreement to be ambassadors to help promote the awards which is scheduled to come off on December 25, 2011.

The car was handed over to Roselyn at a short ceremony attended by Fred Nuamah, Prince Tsegah and other personalities in Accra Friday.

Roselyn Ngissah confirmed the presentation in an interview with Myjoyonline.com. She explained that the branded car has not been handed over to her for keeps but rather to use it as an official car to help promote the awards.

“They needed to promote the awards and the organisers agreed that I should be given the car to promote it… but if any of the actresses, [Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim or Yvonne Okoro] should decide to also promote it, I will hand over the keys.”

Roselyn who was ''cruising'' in the car as at the time of the interview said she was more than willing to hand over the car to any of the remaining actresses to also promote the awards.
