| Crime boss suspect Holleeder speaks out |

One of Holland’s top crime boss suspects, Willem Holleeder, has broken his silence in an interview with today’s Telegraaf. The ‘Godfather’ says claims made against him by the public prosecution service are ‘rubbish’ and that he looks forward to the chance to put his case forward to the judge during his trial which begins in April. In the past Holleeder has always called on his right to remain silent in court.
‘I will be happy when it’s April. It isn’t easy when the media writes you off as some sort of monster when you yourself know that you didn’t do it,’ says Holleeder.
‘And I’m exasperated about everything that I’ve read [in the prosecution files], what a lot of rubbish it all is. I will be glad when I can finally say something to the judge. Then I can defend myself.’
The interview was recorded at the high security prison in Vught and can be seen on Nederland 1 tonight.
Holleeder is accused of blackmailing several real estate magnates, including Willem Endstra who was murdered in 2004. He is also under investigation for his role in a number of Amsterdam gangland killings.
He was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment for his role in kidnapping beer magnate Freddy Heineken in the 1980s.
