Phone records on file for 18 months? 1/20/2007
The cabinet wants telecom companies and internet providers to keep all details of their subscribers phone calls and internet activities for 18 months, the NRC reported on Saturday. The proposal is contained in a draft bill before parliament.

The cabinet says the records will help combat terrorism and organised crime. The five big phone companies have written to the cabinet urging them to think again. They say the proposal is not only expensive but that storing so much data will lead to practical problems.
