24 January 2007

AMSTERDAM - ABN Amro does not want to respond to rumours that it plans to take over Pakistani bank Prime Commercial Bank.

The Daily Times reported on ABN Amro''s plans on Wednesday morning, citing information from "sources in banking circles".

ABN has been active in Pakistan since 1948 and now has nine offices in the country. It is currently one of the three largest foreign banks in Pakistan.

A spokesperson for the bank did not want to say what financial objectives ABN Amro has in Pakistan.

Prime Commercial Bank, founded in 1991, offers banking in compliance with Islamic law and operates 63 locations in Pakistan.
