Amsterdam ranked the world''s 11th best city 1/24/2007
24 January 2007

AMSTERDAM – The brand ''Amsterdam'' has been given high marks worldwide.

In an image survey of sixty metropolises, the Dutch capital ranked 11th and is generally seen as a city with beautiful buildings and parks, affordability for tourists and a place where guests receive a warm welcome.

That emerged from the ''Anholt City Brand Index'' that international government advisor, Simon Anholt, carried out for the second time this year.

A group of 15,255 people were asked how they thought life would be in a specific city.

The first place on the list was Sydney and, thus, the Australian city pushed London from first into second place. The third place is for Paris.

The study shows that Amsterdam has a stable image and that the assessment has, for all intents and purposes, not changed in comparison to last year.

At that time, Amsterdam even ended in sixth place, but only 30 cities had been included in the study.

The city receives the highest marks in the area of basic needs for a resident or tourist.

The accommodations are affordable and the public facilities such as schools, hospitals, public transportation and sports facilities are also well taken care of, according to those questioned. In this area, Amsterdam is in sixth place among the cities of the world.
