| Parliament postpones votes on healthcare |

AMSTERDAM – The parliamentary factions of the parties negotiating on a new government failed to support a motion from the SP on Tuesday to scrap the no-claim reimbursement in health care as of 1 January 2008.
As a result Parliament did not voice support for scrapping the measure.
Labour PvdA MP Eelke van der Veen said on Tuesday that his party would not vote on motions regarding the no-claim scheme, expansion of the basic package or medical-ethical matters in light of the ongoing formation talks.
It emerged last year that a majority in Parliament favours scrapping the no-claim scheme. The prospective coalition parties (Christian Democrat CDA, Labour PvdA and ChristenUnie) have also voiced support for such a move.
The no-claim scheme allows people who make little use of healthcare to receive a maximum amount of 255 euro a year back from their health insurer.
The ChristenUnie postponed a motion on Tuesday that would speed up a smoking ban in the catering industry. The ChristenUnie had already withdrawn a motion to restrict alcohol advertising because this could be a discussion topic in the negotiations for a new Cabinet.
