AMSTERDAM — The fire onboard a ship in Velsen harbour was still raging this morning. The fire-fighters had not been able to put the fire out for hours. However, the chance that the ship tips over and the burning oil pours out into the water had been excluded.
The carcass of the ship can be stabilized, NOS reports. A storage company called Wijsmuller has been asked to do the job. Oil screens have been installed all around the burning ship.
The fie at the 143-long vessel began yesterday morning. An area of one kilometre around the ship has been cleared to prevent intoxication with poisonous gasses released.
