6 February 2007

AMSTERDAM — The recently opened concert hall of Het Muziekgebouw aan het IJ in Amsterdam was named the best building of 2006 and winner of the Dutch Construction Prize (Nederlandse Bouwprijs) in the buildings category.

In the category of construction projects Het Souterrain in The Hague was the winner. It is better known to the general public as the tram tunnel through the city centre.

The winning building in Amsterdam is recognised as the inspiration for further development of the area behind the Central Station, on the Ij. Het Muziekgebouw aan het IJ was designed by a Danish team called 3x Nielsen and had already won the Italian Dedalo Minosse prize in 2006.

Het Souterrain was praised for its user-friendliness.

Also recognised was the Institute for Sound and Vision. Their new building was number one in the construction materials category (the outer walls of the building are laid with 3D images)
