AMSTERDAM – The Islamic College of Amsterdam (ICA) is being given one last chance to get its act together: if performance standards are not met by May, the schools subsidy will be scrapped. Education Minister Maria van der Hoeven wrote this to Parliament.
The highest priority should be improving education in the graduating classes. The school must also pay more attention to integration and citizenship, and agreements on better financial management have been made.
The Periodic Quality Survey by the Education Inspectorate indicated in April 2006 that the ICA is an ‘extremely weak’ school is. The inspectorate was also concerned about the personnel policy. Newspaper Trouw named ICA the worst school in the Netherlands in a survey.
The inspectorate investigated whether the school meddled in radical Islamic ideas but found no indication of this.
