AMSTERDAM — Everyone with a higher income will pay more tax than they do today, reads the new coalition accord officially signed yesterday by the Christian Democrats (CDA), the Labour Party (PvdA) and the Christian Union (ChristenUnie). The new government programme has a motto: “Work Together, Live Together”.
The new government will take a number of steps to address higher incomes, leader of the Labour Party (PvdA) Wouter Bos said Wednesday at the presentation of the new coalition accord.
He cited as examples the plan to let the richer pensioners contribute to the general old age pension fund(AOW), increase the income tax for those with a higher income and keep the “golden handshake” habits in the public sector in chech.
Bos had already criticised Christian Democrat (CDA) leader Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende for not putting enough pressure on the rich during the previous government term.
