Manifesto for ''''green revolution'''' 2/26/2007
26 February 2007

AMSTERDAM - A group of Dutch celebrities has published a manifesto in De Volkskrant today calling on the new government to step up its efforts to protect the environment and stop global warming.

The manifesto refers to Former US Vice President Al Gore''''s recent film on climate change ''''An inconvenient truth'''' and calls for new large-scale wind-energy parks in the North Sea. The group is opposed to the construction of new nuclear power plants and wants to prevent any new coal-powered plants from being built.

"Gore says we are on the brink of the abyss; he is right. The inconvenient truth does not have an easy answer, but calls for a green revolution."

The manifesto was signed by former astronaut Wubbo Ockels, footballer Khalid Boulahrouz, writer Geert Mak, television personality Henny Huisman and politicians Femke Halsema (Green Left GroenLinks) and Lousewies van der Laan (Democrats D66).

The Dutch environmental movement supports the initiative.
