AMSTERDAM – The founder of the Planet Prosperity Foundation, lawyer Roger Cox (39), is personally sponsoring free screenings of Al Gore''s film on climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth" in The Hague and Hilversum.
In total his foundation will be sponsoring about 25,000 free tickets for the film in 8 cities – not only The Hague and Hilversum but also Rotterdam, Leiden, Zeist, Eindhoven, Venray/Reuver and Heerlen. The film will be shown for free for four weeks starting on 8 March. The foundation is currently making arrangements to add another 12 cities to the list.
Cox hopes his action will send the message that it is time for action. He says concrete initiatives are needed to involve the public in the topic of climate change in an engaging and informative way.
"This Oscar winning film does that, which is why I want to give as many people as possible the chance to see the film for free. Think of it as a privately organised information campaign," Cox says.
Cox is organising the large-scale action after overwhelming response to an initial 24 free screenings in Maastricht. A website with more information on the event will be announced soon.
