Hiddink convicted on some charges 3/1/2007
AMSTERDAM - Dutch football coach Guus Hiddink was sentenced to a 45,000-euro fine and a suspended prison sentence of six months on Tuesday. He was convicted of making false reports on his tax return filed for 2003.

The public prosecution department (OM) had asked that the Russian national coach be sentenced to 10 months in prison for tax evasion to the order of 1.4 million euro.

Hiddink registered as a resident of Belgium in 2002 and 2003 but was not living there. The court imposed a lighter penalty than the OM had demanded because it cleared him of the charges of fraud for 2002.

Hidink''s lawyer said his client was glad he would not actually have to be serving any time, but was upset that his reputation had been tarnished. He is preparing to appeal the case.
