Many youth plan to emigrate 3/16/2007
AMSTERDAM – Almost half - 44 percent – of Dutch youth want to emigrate in future. This emerged on Wednesday from a survey by Interview/NSS, commissioned by Visie21, a citizens'' initiative that is drawing up a long-term vision for the Netherlands.

More than six hundred young people were interviewed as part of the survey.

Respondents said they want to leave the Netherlands because of the bad weather and because there are better opportunities abroad with relation to study and/or work.

No less than 94 percent of the youth said that something had to change in the Netherlands. 44 percent said that more should be done to tackle crime, and 43 percent said that more efforts should be devoted to protecting the environment.
