Working times hard on workers |

AMSTERDAM - FNV trade unions think the working times act which came into effect on Sunday puts too much of a burden on workers. The restrictions set on daily working hours are far too lenient, the unions say.
The new law no longer makes a distinction between normal working times and overtime. Workers who are not part of a collective labour agreement (CAO) may work a maximum of 12 hours a day, and 60 hours a week, as of 1 April. Workers who are covered by a CAO will only be subject to these maximum working hours when the current CAO is renewed.
The old law only allowed overtime as an incidental occurrence. FNV trade unions does not like the fact that the new law no longer specifies overtime as a special case.
