AMSTERDAM – The municipal council of Tilburg has invited the controversial imam Salam for a discussion. The conversation will focus on how the imam can make a contribution to the Tilburg society, broadcaster NOS reports.
Imam Salam denied reports last week that he had called on Muslims to damage the Dutch state by refusing to pay tax. The media reported that he had done so, and that Tilburg mayor Ruud Vreeman had reprimanded him for it.
Vreeman was also reported as saying that Salam does not belong in the Netherlands. It is not yet known whether Salam will accept the invitation and meet with the municipal council. The talk will be a closed event if he decides to accept.
