AMSTERDAM - TNT Post will scrap at least 6,500 to 7,000 jobs by 2010. The postal company also wants to cut down on benefits for workers. Otherwise 11,000 jobs could be lost.
TNT announced this on Tuesday. The company hopes to save EUR 300 million with the reorganisation. TNT says it needs to cut these costs in order to survive the competition in the postal sector at the moment.
The postal company''s results have been under pressure for some time already as traditional post is being increasingly replaced by electronic communication.
The company says compulsory dismissal is a possibility. TNT wants to sit down to discuss the changes with the trade unions and the works councils in the coming months. The reorganisation is expected to start at the end of this year.
