Another Dutchman killed in Afghanistan 6/18/2007

AMSTERDAM – Another Dutch soldier has been killed in Afghanistan. Commander of the Dutch armed forces General Dick Berlijn announced this at a press conference on Monday afternoon. Three other soldiers have been injured.

44-year-old Sergeant major Leunissen of the 30th Infantry Battalion from Assen died in an accident during hostilities near the city of Chora, north of Tarin Kowt, Soldiers have been involved in fights against Taliban fighters since the weekend.

Leunissen is the third combat-related death among the Dutch troops in Afghanistan. On Sunday the remains of soldier Timo Smeehuijzen (20) were returned to the Netherlands. Smeehuijzen died in a suicide attack on Friday.
