Schiphol airport still hit by problems, rail services reduced

Up to 1,000 stranded passengers spent Saturday night at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport as the snow continues to cause problems across Europe.
Passengers were told again on Sunday to check first with their airline before travelling to the airport. Thousands of holidaymakers have been stranded at airports all over Europe because of the bad weather.
Schiphol had expected to process 350,000 people this weekend, at the start of the Christmas break.
Railways
Dutch Rail (NS) is advising passengers to delay journeys too and from Utrecht because of long delays in the west and central parts of the country.
Elsewhere there are reduced rail services but international trains are unaffected, the NS said.
A second snow front which moved from the south to the north brought up to 30 cm in some places, the KNMI weather bureau said. Most places had between five cm and 10 cm.
On the roads, driving conditions are difficult, and the ANWB motoring organisation reports may vehicles having problems on bridges.
Forecast
The KNMI says it will be dry with sunny spells in most places on Sunday and Monday, but it will remain below freezing during the day and drop to up to -12 Celsius at night.
A thaw may set in from Wednesday or Thursday, the KNMI said. The wind is set to turn southwesterly and will bring warmer temperatures.
