Teacher assaults referee
Cape Coast, Nov 22, GNA - A teacher of the Jukwa Secondary School in the Central Region on Monday assaulted referee Kennedy Bentil after his school''s team accused the referee of prematurely ending the semi-final football match.

The referee handled the semi-final football match between Jukwa Secondary and the University Practice Secondary School (UPSS) in the Regional Inter-Schools and Colleges soccer competition Referee Bentil was accused for not allowing the match to travel its full time and as a result the teacher whose name was not immediately known was alleged to have joined the students to boot down the referee and in the ensuing stampede, the referee''s uniform was torn and his watch and whistle stolen.

The confusion began when Jukwa Secondary School''s outside right, Simpson Owusu rushed on Mr Bentil when the final whistle went off and accused him of not allowing the match to travel the full time and in the process the teacher was said to have assaulted and booted the referee. During the competition, UPSS had earlier eliminated Jukwa Secondary Technical School with a 2-1 victory.

Ironically it was Jukwa''s centre half, Jenies Kassum who scored the opener but their opponents found the equalizer through outside right, Ibrahim Ben Koufie before the end of the first half.

The two teams resumed the second half strongly but it was UPSS who gained the upper hand and went ahead to score the match winner through inside right, Joseph Quagraine in the 55th minute. 22 Nov. 05Source:
