Hearts Ordered to Pay Oly $36,000
A FAST Track High Court in Accra yesterday ordered Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Limited to pay 36,000 dollars to Accra Great Olympics Football Club.
Additionally, the court presided over by Mr Justice E. K. Ayebi, ordered Hearts of Oak to pay another ¢39 million to Olympics and said "all the amounts should be paid with interest".
He also awarded ¢20 million cost against Hearts of Oak (defendant) whose representative or counsel was absent when the default judgement was read.
The plaintiff (Olympics) filed the suit on October 17, 2005 to demand ¢79 million and 36,000 dollars respectively from Hearts of Oak for their share in the onward transfer of three of the plaintiff’s players.
The players are Laryea Kingston, Samuel Monnie and Charles Asampong Taylor.
Laryea Kingston was transferred to a foreign club, Monnie to Okwawu United and Charles Taylor to Kumasi Asante Kotoko by Hearts of Oak, but the defendants failed to give Olympics’ their share of the transfer monies.
Olympics in their statement of claim had sought for an order to compel the defendants to pay ¢79 million and another 36,000 dollars but counsel for the plaintiff indicated to the court that the defendant had paid ¢40 million out of the ¢79 million.
They also sought for interest and cost which the court duly granted.
At the time of going to press, efforts to get a reaction from Hearts proved futile.
