Queens to play Angola in Olympic Qualifier |

Accra, Dec 21, GNA - The National Women''s team, the Black Queens have been drawn against Angola in the preliminaries of the qualifying rounds of the 2008 Olympics Games to be staged in Beijing, China.
Information gathered by the GNA Sports from the Secretariat of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Cairo has it the first of the two-legged encounter will come off on the weekends of 16-18 February in Angola. The return leg is scheduled for 9-11 March, 2007 with the winner progressing to the next stage of the qualifying rounds.
According to the information, it is likely that the winner of the Ghana-Angola encounter will face the winner of the South Africa-Equatorial Guinea encounter in the next stage of the qualifiers.
The Black Queens ranked 49 by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) as against Angola who are at 98 will be seeking for their third ticket for a major competition after the 2007 All Africa Games and 2007 World Women''s Championship to be staged in Algeria and China respectively.
The Ghanaian team qualified for the All Africa Games without kicking a ball on the automatic ticket and sealed their qualification for their third World Cup by emerging as runners up to Nigeria in last month''s African Women''s Championship (AWC).
The second best female team on the continent, the Queens have never qualified for the Olympic Game''s after missing out narrowly to their major rivals Nigeria during the Athens 2004 qualifiers.
Africa has one slot for the Olympic Games. The other fixtures for the qualifying rounds are Liberia-Ethiopia, Nigeria-Senegal, Guinea-Zimbabwe, Eritrea-Morocco, Equatorial Guinea-South Africa, Namibia-DR Congo and Mozambique-Algeria.Source: GNA
