Kumasi, Jan 11, GNA - Anthony K. Adusei, a former trainer of the senior national team, the Black Stars has commended the team for exhibiting a high level of cohesion and being consistent in their performance in recent times. He therefore predicted that the Stars stood the chance of winning next year''s African Cup of Nations (CAN) if they maintain the current consistent performance, notwithstanding the stiff opposition they would face from the continent''s football powerhouses. Mr Adusei, a member of the technical team of the Stars'' squad which won silver at the 1992 CAN hosted by Senegal, was speaking to the the Black Stars is a show of good omen and an indication of better things to come the way of the team in the CAN 2008 if the players sustain this momentum", he added. The coach stressing that it therefore behoves on the team to be committed to duty to enable Ghana win its fifth Cup of Nations as it plays host to the tournament next year. The former Stars'' trainer, who is also the immediate past Ashanti Regional Sports Development Officer and now plies his trade with Norchip Football Club, a Kumasi-based First Division side as the head coach. Coach Adusei called on stakeholders of football to rally solidly behind the Stars to enable the team to replicate the sterling performance it put up at the last World Cup championship in Germany in next year''s CAN tournament. He congratulated Claude Le Roy, head coach of the Stars for his commitment to duty and his resolve to constitute a local component to augment the strength and dynamism of the team. Coach Adusei said such an effort was crucial to buoying the confidence of the local based players to strive for greater feats in the discharge of their duties since they stood the chance of being called to don the national jersey if they put on sterling performance. He therefore charged the management and technical handlers of local clubs to be supportive of 93this laudable idea since the concept had helped many great football nations to develop their game to an appreciable standard". "We need an all-inclusive Black Stars which would have the character and strength to lift next year''s African Cup which had eluded the nation since 1982 when Ghana won her fourth and last African Cup", he said.
