Saadi Gadhafi, the son of Libyan leader Moammar, has signed a six-month contract with the Italian side Sampdoria.
The 33-year-old joined the club on Sunday hoping to revive his Serie A career after unsuccessful spells at Perugia and Udinese.
Gadhafi has not played in any official matches since joining Udinese in June 2005, appearing in only a pre-season friendly against Inter Milan.
His only Serie A appearance came with Perugia in May 2004 where he played for 15 minutes against Juventus.
Gadhafi was suspended in November 2003 after testing positive for a performance-enhancing steroid.
He denied intentionally doping, saying medicine he took for back pain probably caused the positive result.
