| Sponsors to pay new Nigeria coach |

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) says the four-year contract of new coach Berti Vogts will be financed in full by a sponsor.
NFA boss Sani Lulu said at a briefing in Abuja that Vogts will earn about US$65,000 a month, making him the best paid expatriate coach ever hired by Nigeria.
"Vogts will not receive any sign-on fee rather he will earn about US$65,000 a month and our major sponsors, Globacom, are directly responsible for this payment," Lulu said.
Vogts'''' contract will begin in March with his main target being to qualify Nigeria for the 2010 World Cup finals to be staged in South Africa after the west African country failed to reach Germany 2006.
"He has promised to take Nigeria to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa," said the NFA boss.
"No one can dismiss Berti Vogts'''' pedigree as a seasoned and accomplished coach.
"But even if there are those who do not trust our judgment for hiring him, we can only appeal to them to give him a chance."
Over the years cash-strapped Nigerian football authorities have ran into trouble with the payment of the salaries of their coaches regularly.
For instance, in 1988, world soccer governing body Fifa was forced to order the NFA to pay out the contract of German coach Manfried Hoener.
