Ghana’s under 17 team, the Black Starlets yesterday drew 1-1 in their second consecutive game at the world under 17 cup in Peru.
The Starlets went behind to an early second half striker by the Costa Ricans, but defender Jonathan Quartey powered in a free kick to draw Ghana level.
Despite enjoying a chunk of the possession, the Ghanaians failed to convert their dominance into goals.
According to Joy Sports correspondent in Peru, Eva Okyere, the Ghanaian players were understandably upset after the result, but coach David Duncan is confident his team can beat group leaders China in the last group game to qualify.
However, some local soccer fans have expressed dissatisfaction at the team’s performance yesterday.
Black Starlets coach David Duncan is fuming with rage after his team drew yet again in the on going world under-17 championship.
The Black Starlets yesterday had to rally back to draw 1-1 with South American side, Costa Rica.
Duncan would be hoping to go past the group stage after Scotland 1989, where Ghana’s teams were unable to go beyond the first round in their debut at the competition.
But before Ghana meets group leaders, China in their final group game on Thursday David Duncan could barely hide his disappointment after yesterday’s game.
"I am not at all happy with the result. We simply could not convert our chances. It is almost ironic when you consider we had over 60% of the possession in the first half."
However his opposite number Geovanny Alfaro had a slightly different outlook on the game:
"I am very happy with the 1:1. My players were a little too attack-minded after taking the lead but the result gives us every chance of reaching the quarter-finals."
