Nasarawa hit by keeper crisis 2/16/2007
Nigerian side Nasarawa United have been hit by a goalkeeping crisis ahead of the second round of the Champions League.

Youngster Femi Thomas is the only other keeper registered for the competition after injury to John Dosu.

Caf has turned down an appeal from Nasarawa to sign another keeper as clubs are allowed to register new players again during the group stage of the competition.

"It is indeed a bizarre situation for us as we are left with only one goalkeeper in the Champions league, yet Caf insists we have to cope with that," Nasarawa club manager Anthony Yamusa told BBC Sport on Thursday.

"Although we registered three goalkeepers for this competition, one is ruled out for the rest of the season while the third has left for another club.

"Caf says we have to wait until the group stage to register another goalkeeper but how do we cope with two important games left to reach that level.

"It will be totally ridiculous if we are left to continue like this hence we want Caf to help out but not to bend the rules."

The club cruised to the second round of the competition on Sunday after beating ASFA Yennega of Burkina Faso 2-0 to go through 3-1 on aggregate.

Nasawara is the only Nigerian side left in the competition and will face Gambian club Ports Authority in next month''s second round.
