ISRAEL Hapoel Tel Aviv moved top of the Premier League standings yesterday, but needed a controversial injury-time goal against Ashdod to knock Beitar off the No.1 spot at least until tonight when it faces Maccabi Haifa. Maccabi Tel Aviv kept up the pressure at the top as it came back for a 2-1 win at Netanya. Abdul Okocha put Netanya ahead on 42 minutes after latching on to a deep cross from Ophir Haim.

ITALY Two goals from captain Francesco Totti inspired Roma to a 3-1 victory over Udinese which keeps them 16 points behind Inter. Totti opened the scoring from the penalty spot just after the half-hour mark and added another on the hour after Simone Perrotta had made it 2-0. Teenage Ghana striker Gyan Asamoah pulled one back in the 69th minute but it was not enough to get the visitors back in the game.

SCOTLAND: Premiership Aberdeen 1-0 Hearts Hearts midfielder Laryea Kingston was sent off against Aberdeen amid claims that he accused referee Steve Conroy of being a racist. Kingston had been booked early in the second half for persistent fouling and shown a second yellow card after a clumsy challenge.
