Stars Off To Austria Today 3/22/2007
Three Black Stars players and the technical team leave Accra for Austria today for Saturday’s international friendly.

The players are the Kingston brothers, Richard and Laryea, both of whom are currently in the country, and Ashantigold’s left winger, Alfred Arthur.

The technical crew includes Coach Claude Le Roy and his assistants Sellas Tetteh and Edward Ansah, Opoku Afriyie (Welfare Officer), Dr Martin Engmann (Team Doctor) and Charles Botchway (physiotherapist).

They are expected to be joined in Austria by the other foreign-based players today.

Those expected are Sammy Adjei, John Mensah, Shilla Illiasu, Francis Dickoh, Hans Adu Sarpei, John Paintsil, Eric Addo, Sulley Muntari, Derek Boateng, Junior Agogo, Haminu Draman, Asamoah Gyan, Peter Ofori Quaye, Michael Helegbe and Alex Tachie Mensah.

Skipper Stephen Appiah, who picked an injury in a league match at the weekend,m has been ruled out of the Austria game, as well as next Wednesday’s date with Brazil in Solna, Sweden.

However, the fate of Chelsea midfieder, Michael Essien, who is nursing a knee injury, is yet to be determined.

When contacted on the issue yesterday, FA Spokesman, Randy Abbey, said his outfit was yet to receive information concerning Essien’s fitness for the upcoming matches.
