Accra, May 31, GNA - World soccer governing body FIFA on Thursday re-elected 71-year-old Swiss Joseph Blatter as president. According to information gathered by the GNA Sports, Blatter who was the only candidate for the post at the FIFA Congress at Geneva was unanimously elected to his third term as president by the 208 delegates from the 208 members.
Nine years ago, Blatter beat former UEFA president Lennart Johansson in the FIFA presidential election. He won against the president of the Confederation of African Football, Issa Hayatou five years ago. Blatter has always pushed for the social responsibility of football and is widely seen as being instrumental in bringing the World Cup to Africa.
