Appiah completes injury return 10/9/2007
Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has finally returned to action after six months out with a knee injury.

The 26-year-old came on as a substitute for Turkish giants Fenerbahce in their league match against Maniaspor on Saturday night.

Defender Deniz Baris made way for the Ghanaian midfielder with only ten minutes remaining as they drew 1-1 in the away game.

Appiah had not featured in a competitive game since undergoing a major knee surgery in May after suffering the injury in their march towards the Turkish title last season.

Appiah is eager to help the Turkish champions to turn their fortunes around after an indifferent start to the season.

"I''m very happy with my return at last. But the most important thing is that together with my team-mates we can close in on the early pacesetters in the league," Appiah said.

"Personally I have gone through a very difficult period in my life but I thank God that I am fully fit.

"My fans here in Turkey and Ghanaians have been anxious about my injury but I want to assure them that my knee is completely healed.”

Appiah is also seeking to play for the Black Stars on home soil as Ghana host the African Cup of Nations finals in January.

"Ghanaians were very worried about my injury but now that I''m fully fit I can assure them that they will see the best of me in January," he said.

"I owe it to the people of my country to be in the best shape of my life when we host the tournament to ensure that we win the trophy.

"Even though I have not played for the Black Stars since February I have followed they team and I should have no problems fitting into the squad."
