French club Rennes have completed the signing of striker Asamoah Gyan.

The 22-year-old moves from Italian side Udinese for a fee believed to be around US$12m.

Gyan signed a four-year deal with the Ligue One club on Friday to join compatriot John Mensah at Rennes.

"I had several offers but after talking to John and others who have played in France I thought the Rennes move was the best," Gyan told BBC Sport.

"I feel I can get more playing time here to further develop my career in Europe."

Gyan has been impressive for Udinese after returning from two seasons on loan at Italian rivals Modena.

But it was at the 2006 World Cup in Germany where he began to attract the interest of other clubs.

He scored the third-minute goal which set the Black Stars on their way to a thrilling 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic in Germany.

Gyan also marked his Ghana debut in November 2003 with a goal against Somalia and went on to score four times in seven matches during the World Cup qualifying campaign.
