Queens drawn in ''Group of Death'' 9/28/2008

Accra, Sept 27, GNA - Ghana''s Black Queens have been drawn in a tough group with sworn rivals Nigeria and South Africa as contenders for the 6th Africa Women Championship slated for Equatorial Guinea from November 15 to 29.

The draw, conducted in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on Saturday put the Queens in Group B alongside reigning Champions, Super Falcons of Nigeria, Banyana Banyana of South Africa and relatively unknown Tunisia. Information gathered by the GNA Sports after the draw indicates that the Queens'' rated as the continent''s second force in Women''s football will begin their campaign for their first major silverware against the Falcons, winners of all five previous editions on November 16 at the Port City of Bata, the second largest city in Equatorial Guinea.

The Ghanaians will next play South Africa three days later at the same venue before wrapping up their campaign against Tunisia in Malabo, the Equatorial Guinean capital on November 22.

The other group comprises hosts Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Congo and Mali.

This is the second time the Queens have been drawn in the same group with the Falcons. The first was in 2002 at Warri where the Ghanaians beat their rivals by a lone goal in the group clash but bowed 0-2 in the final. The Queens who have participated in all previous editions have emerged runners-up four times and third once with the Falcons of Nigeria emerging winners on all occasions.
