Ghana’s male hockey team have failed to secure themselves a place at next year’s hockey world cup in Germany after losing their second game.
Ghana dashed her world cup dreams completely as the Black Sticks were handed their second successive defeat by host nation South Africa yesterday.
The Black Sticks this time were trounced 4-0 after losing their first game earlier 2-4 to Egypt, in the opening match of the 9th African Hockey Championship on Saturday.
After the first game, Ghana’s coach Winfred Sackey in a post match interview with the GNA blamed the defeat on the nervousness of the players adding, "They gave away too many silly penalty corners."
"Something simply went wrong today but all is not lost, the tournament has just began," he told the GNA Sports after the match.
In the women’s game, Ghana and Nigeria drew 1-1. Today is a rest day for all the teams.
But on the local scene, NDK Financiers were buttered 6-1 by rivals Multi-stix in the Areeba senior’s league on Saturday.
Citizens settled for a 1-1 draw against Veterans.
