| Ghana’s Team For All Africa Games Stranded |

Peacefmonline.com can confirm that some members of the Ghanaian contingent for the 10th All Africa Games which kicks off on Saturday, September 3rd, in Maputo, Mozambique are stranded in South Africa.
They are said to be at the mercy of the weather and currently sleeping in makeshift places of abode at the airport.
Ghana is presenting a 156-man contingent for 15 disciplines - minus football - for the September 3-18 Games, but 34 members of the contingent made up of Netball and Table Tennis players, Cyclists and Karate-do team, together with three officials might not make it to the games.
President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Revd Richmond Quarcoo affectionately called Jack, speaking from all the way from South Africa (S.A) confirmed the news to PeaceFM’s Akwasi Aboagye on the “Entertainment Review” programme a short while ago.
According to him, the delegation left Ghana on Thursday, September 1st but unfortunately are still stucked in S.A, and might not be able to participate in the Games which incidentally kicks off today, Saturday, September 3rd.
“…the delegation is facing a lot of challenges…there is no leader to even provide information along the way…we were not given any financial support…some members of the contingent have not slept or eaten since Thursday (when they departed from Ghana).”
“We only got to know that not all members of the team will be travelling on the same flight when we arrived in South Africa…Some will have to transit from the O.R. Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) in Johannesburg whiles others will make their transit from the Luzira Airport,” he said.
A clearly frustrated Rev Quarcoo further revealed that they also have no means of transport to the airport and when they consulted British Airways, they were informed that authorities in Ghana did not make any such arrangement. He bemoaned the fact that the Cycling and Karate-do teams, though scheduled to participate in their respective disciplines today, are unfortunately stranded at the Luzira airport because of pre-departure formalities.
“… their tickets have not been confirmed as yet…there is nothing we can do just trusting in God for a miracle,” he lamented.
The Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Council (NSC) are facilitators of the trip to Mozambique via South Africa.
