Seven Black Stars Players Dropped 2/26/2012

Seven players, who played at the recent Africa Cup of Nations, have been axed from Ghana’s squad to play Chile in a friendly in the United States this week.

Coach Goran Stevanovic seems to have excluded the seven players for various reasons while giving the chance to some new players.

This revelation comes in the wake of the release of his squad on the Ghana FA’s official website for the game in Philadelphia.

Defenders Samuel Inkoom, Isaac Vorsah, John Mensah and strikers Prince Tagoe and Asamoah Gyan were left out of the squad for the game against the South Americans.

Also dropped from the squad are midfielders Charles Takyi, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Mohammed Abu.

Stevanovic looks to have left out several players who played at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations after intense criticism of the squad he used at the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The dropping of seven players from the Nations Cup squad will be welcomed in many quarters but they have been left out for various reasons.

Captain John Mensah looks to have been given the time off to enable capture a place in Lyon’s starting line-up in the face of several injuries they are facing in their defence.
Vorsah, who is also fighting to regain his starting place at Hoffenheim, seems to have been left out for similar reasons while the reasons for dropping Inkoom are unclear.

Gyan’s exlcusion is clear following his decision to take some time off from the Black Stars.

Tagoe’s dropping is likely to appease some fans who have been calling for his head following his performances at the 2012 Nations Cup.

Agyemang Badu has been left because he is recovering from injury after undergoing surgery following the knee injury he suffered at the Nations Cup.

The match in Philadelphia is the first since the Black Stars played at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
