Oguaa Soccer fans gripped with joy
Cape Coast, Oct. 9, GNA - The Cape Coast Municipality was on Saturday evening thrown into a state of joy immediately after the match between the Black Stars and Cape Verde came to an end in Praia when the Stars thrashing the Islanders 4-0.
The victory of the Stars has thus qualified Ghana for the first time to participate in the World Cup tournament scheduled for Germany in 2006.
At Kotokuraba, a suburb of Cape Coast, soccer fans gathered in groups shouting, "Osei yei! Yei! Yei! While Taxi drivers in their joyous mood waved Ghanaian flags amidst tooting of horns to celebrate the memorable occasion.
At the Kotokuraba taxi rank, Mr Kwesi Atta Abubakar Jnr, a taxi driver who plies from to and from the university told the GNA Sports that he was so excited about the victory of the Stars that it would be difficult for him to eat his dinner.
Mr Baba Omar, alias "Obra" expressed gratitude to God that for the first time in country''s history, the Black Stars have qualified for the World Cup for Ghana to take part in Germany 2006 tournament. He appealed to the government to offer much more support to the team than it had done before, stressing that, "our qualification would be of less significance if the team does not put up an impressive performance in the tournament.
Mr Omar also urged Ghanaians to intensify their prayers to enable the Stars win the World Cup, adding that the team was capable of winning the ultimate since the country has the soccer talents and materials to withstand any nation in the world.
Mr Rashad Ma-azu, a third year student of Cape Coast Polytechnic and a former player of Ebusua Dwarfs who was at the station expressed happiness over the Stars qualification and said he has the belief that Ghana would no doubt spring a surprise on the soccer world in Germany. He wished the Stars all the best of luck and appealed to the players not to allow any differences of opinion whatsoever to create any form of disunity amongst them and urged them to always strive to play as a team.
Mr Joseph Rolla, an executive member of the Taxi rank said that he was the happiest man on earth because he predicted at the station before the commencement of the match that Ghana would beat Cape Verde 4-0. He urged the playing body and technical handlers to work harder than before to enable the team perform creditably in Germany during the tournament.
