Ghanaians celebrate stars victory in darkness 10/10/2005
A major power outage which left the country in darkness dampened what will have been a massive celebration of Ghana’s historic qualification to the World Cup.

Power was abruptly cut off just as the game ended last Saturday after the Black Stars wallop Cape Verde 4-nil in Praia.

JOYNEWS correspondents across the country reported a simultaneous disruption in power supply as disappointed, yet still jubilant fans called into Joy FM.

Parts of Accra and Tema had power restored about an hour later as the VRA told JOY FM its technical team was working to restore power to affected areas.

Meanwhile, the VRA is investigating the cause of a system collapse that led to the power outage.

Officials at the company’s public affairs department told JOY FM heavy rains early on Friday may have resulted in the system collapse.
