Boost For Elmina Salt Producers Association
The government has provided the Elmina Salt Producers Association with a credit of ¢3.2 billion to boost salt production and create more jobs in the area.
It is also supporting fishermen and farmers with credits for inputs as well as boosting the tourism, health and education sectors.
Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the Minister of Harbours and Railways, stated this at the inauguration of a ¢4.1 billion headquarters building for the Kakum Rural Bank Limited at Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District in the Central Region last Friday.
The occasion also coincided with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the bank.
Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi, who said the credit facility would be channelled through the bank, also commended the bank for living up to its financial service delivery in the rural sector of the economy and meeting its social responsibility in the areas of education, health and improving the economic wellbeing of the people in its catchment area.
He advised the management of the bank to explore and use new market opportunities as well as meet the new challenges ahead.
The General Manager of the bank, Mr Samuel Tetteh Sackey, said the bank as part of its social responsibility, had adopted the Children’s Ward of the Central Regional Hospital and also awarded scholarships to students with an amount of ¢41 million.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank, Nana Okofo Enyimakwa IX, also commended the bank for its prudent policies, which had helped to improve its services and urged the management to continue to explore further ways to help exploit the economic potential of the area.
The Deputy Central Regional Minister, Mr Stephen Nana Ato Arthur, and the District Chief Executive for KEEA, Mr George Frank Asmah, also commended the bank for rendering invaluable services to its clients and the district.
