CPP mourns Hawa |

Accra, March 22, GNA - The Convention People''s Party (CPP) on Wednesday paid tribute to Madam Hawa Yakubu, first vice chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying 93her death is a big blow to Ghanaians in general and to women in particular".
In a statement signed by Dr Edmund Delle, National Chairman, the CPP said it was dumbfounded about the death of Madam Yakubu and expressed condolences to the bereaved family, women groups and the NPP. "Ghana has indeed lost an illustrious woman whose input in our (young) democracy was highly (commendable)."
The statement said the CPP recalled the major role she played on both the local and international political scene with her influence stretching from Liberia to Ghana where she was a member of the ECOWAS Parliament chairing the important Transportation Committee. "The CPP believes that the youth in Ghana will emulate the good works of Madam Hawa Yakubu and build upon her legacy." She died in a London hospital on Tuesday.
Madam Yakubu, popularly known as "Iron Lady" for her resilience, forthrightness, determination to fight, was a former MP for Bawku Central, Minister of Tourism and Member of the ECOWAS Parliament. Madam Yakubu, a native of Pusiga in the Upper East Region, was born in Tarkwa in the Western Region on March 24, 1948 to Mr Yakubu Awinaba and Hajia Azore. 22 March 07
