Accra, April 16, GNA - The National Steering Committee (NSC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday stated that all ongoing actions aimed at removing any constituency executives from office have been immediately curtailed and closed.
In this regard, actions in respect of the removal of executives of Tema East, Ablekuma South and Okai South constituencies are to cease forthwith and the status quo maintained.
A statement signed by Nana Ohene-Ntow, General Secretary of the NPP, said the NSC recently held a series of conflict resolution meetings with the Greater Accra Regional leadership of the party with the aim of resolving current disagreements and tensions that had arisen within the region.
The meetings chaired by Mr Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of the NPP, involved the party''s members of parliament in the region, executives from all the 27 constituencies and regional officers. The statement also said the suspension of some members of parliament from att ending regional executive committee meeting had also been set aside.
In this regard, the affected members of Parliament, Nana Akomea, MP for Okaikoi South and Madam Theresa Amerley Tagoe, MP for Ablekuma South, are to continue attending regional executive committee meetings as demanded by the party''s constitution.
The statement said in order that minor conflicts at the constituencies did not degenerate into major problems, constituencies without council of elders should take steps to constitute such councils and allow the elders to play their constitutionally mandated roles which included the resolution of disputes and differences among members. The statement advised members to exhaust all party machinery for complaints and petitions rather than throw the party into the wrong public spotlight unnecessarily.
"Members are to desist from the rampant resort to the use of the media at the least opportunity," the statement added. The meeting also resolved that all splinter groups that were not recognized by the party''s constitution must be disbanded forthwith. Among these groupings are Greater Accra Organizers Welfare Club, Five Star, Association of Constituency Chairmen an Association of Polling Station Chairmen.
It said the only constitutionally recognized bodies within the party are the Youth Wing, the Women Wing, the Nasara Club, Tertiary Students Conferacy (TESCON) and the Young Executives Forum.Source: GNA
